Privacy Policy

The short version

This is a static informational website. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics or advertising trackers, and has no database. Nothing typed into the contact form is transmitted to or stored here. The only records generated by your visit are the ordinary access logs kept by the company that hosts these pages, and the only personal information I hold is whatever you choose to put into an email to me.

The rest of this page explains those points in plain language rather than as a legal instrument, and it describes what actually happens instead of reserving rights I do not exercise.

What the pages themselves collect

Nothing, directly. Every page here is a file, served as it was built. There is no login, no user account, no shopping cart, no comment system, and no server-side code that receives anything from you. There is no mechanism by which a page could collect something, which is a stronger assurance than a promise not to.

Server logs

The hosting provider records ordinary web-server access logs, as essentially every host does. A log entry typically contains the requesting IP address, the date and time, the file requested, the response code and size, the referring page where the browser sent one, and the browser's user-agent string.

Those logs exist so a host can keep a server running and investigate abuse — bot traffic, attempted exploits, outages. I do not use them to build profiles of visitors, I do not connect them to any other information, and I do not sell or share them.

An IP address can, in some circumstances, be personal information. It is recorded here as a byproduct of delivering a file, not as an act of measurement, and entries are held by the host on its own rotation schedule and then discarded.

Analytics and cookies

There are none. No analytics product runs on this website, first-party or third-party. No advertising or remarketing pixel is installed. No cookie is set by these pages, and nothing is written to your browser's local or session storage. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

The distinction is worth stating, because the subject matter makes it easy to blur: I write here about analytics and advertising platforms, and I do not run either of them on this website.

The contact form posts nowhere

The form on the contact page has no server endpoint. When you press the button it assembles what you typed into a message and opens that message in your own email application, addressed to this site, where you can read it, edit it or discard it before anything is sent. Until you send it yourself, from your own mail program, nothing has left your device and nothing has arrived here.

That design means the form cannot leak what you typed. It also means the form offers no protection beyond whatever your own email provides, and ordinary email is not a secure channel. Do not put privileged, confidential or sensitive case material into it.

What happens to a message you send

An email you send is used to reply to you, to run a conflict check against the parties you name, and to evaluate whether the matter is one I can take. That is the whole of it.

I do not sell it, rent it, trade it or hand it to a marketing service. I do not add your address to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list. The message sits in an ordinary business mailbox operated by a mail provider, subject to that provider's own security practices.

If an engagement follows, correspondence about the matter becomes part of the file for that matter and is handled under the terms of the engagement, which are agreed with counsel and not set by this page.

How long anything is kept

Correspondence that does not lead to an engagement is kept only while there is a reason to keep it, and the main reason is the conflict record itself: someone who writes to me once may turn up on the other side of a matter later.

Correspondence attached to an engagement is retained under that engagement's terms, and for the period a professional record is ordinarily kept. Server logs are retained by the host under its own rotation. Nothing here is retained for marketing, because nothing here is used for marketing.

Children

These pages are written for attorneys evaluating an expert in a commercial dispute. The site is not directed to children and I do not knowingly collect information from them.

Asking what is held, or asking for deletion

Write through the contact page and say what you are asking about. I will tell you what correspondence I hold from you and, unless there is a live legal or professional reason to keep it, I will delete it on request.

Because there is no database and no tracking, the honest answer in most cases will be that the only thing held is the email you sent and my reply to it.

Changes to this page

If what the site does ever changes — if analytics were added, for example — this page would be updated to say so before the change went live. No version history is published here; the text above describes the site as it currently stands.
